About Save for Better

An independent UK personal finance blog.

Jack, founder of Save for Better

Hi, I’m Jack.

I’ve always been the person friends and family come to when they have a question about money.

Whether it’s figuring out the best way to save, finding a better bank account, getting a bit more back from everyday spending, or just working out where all the money seems to go each month, I’ve always enjoyed helping people make their money work a little harder.

I’m also a bit of a geek when it comes to financial technology. I’m constantly trying out new apps, exploring cashback sites, testing savings products and keeping an eye on what the banks and fintech companies are coming up with next.

And that’s really where Save for Better came from.

Money is for something

I don’t think managing your money should be about saving every penny just for the sake of having more money.

For me, saving is about giving yourself more choices.

A holiday you’ve been looking forward to. A first home. A new kitchen. A bit more financial breathing room. Or simply being able to say yes to something without worrying about whether you can afford it.

That’s the idea behind Save for Better: helping you make better use of your money so you can put it towards the things you actually care about.

I’ll share the things I’ve learnt along the way, from practical ways to save and make your money go further to useful financial tools, apps and technology that are worth knowing about.

What am I saving for?

I’m not writing this from some distant ivory tower where I’ve already “won” at personal finance.

I’ve recently become a homeowner, and like most homeowners, I’ve quickly discovered that there’s always another thing we’d like to improve.

Right now, we’re saving towards a bathroom renovation.

So while I’m writing about saving and making better financial decisions, I’m doing it for the same reason many of you are: there’s something I’m working towards too.

And hopefully, by sharing what I find along the way, I can help you get a little closer to whatever you’re saving for.

Outside of money

When I’m not thinking about savings accounts, cashback or the latest fintech app, you’ll usually find me out for a walk with our Cavapoochon, Ned.

He’s very good at reminding me that there’s more to life than checking interest rates, and that’s also why he’s the site’s mascot.
